On August 29th, 2005 Hurricane Katrina visited the Gulf Coast, bringing destruction, devastation and permanent emotional scarring to 1,000’s of the Gulf’s residents. Particularly affected was an area of New Orleans, Louisiana, called the Ninth Ward.
Recently, the 10th year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina was recognized. Through the media, you were able to see the circumstances of the people in the Ninth Ward during the Hurricane, and now, 10 years later.
Most people in society would agree that money talks and bullshit runs the marathon. Unfortunately, this is true even in healthcare; I know because I live it every day. But have we morally deteriorated as a society so much that a perfectly healthy individual gets a helicopter ride to safety before or even in some cases, instead of, a person who is at death’s door simply because the sick person is poor??!!
