Personal Development

I’m a big fan of self improvement and self help. You could probably say I’m a fan of help in general. Get it where you need it, get healthy and happy and enjoy life. Reading being my favorite hobby, I’ve spent quite a bit of time with Louise Hay, (my personal favorite), Norman Vincent Peale and John Gray… All wonderful, kind, self improvement authors.

Recently, I’ve been reading personal development articles. Personal development is improving our awareness and identity of ourselves.  Personal development helps us expand our talents and potential.  It enhances our quality of life and contributes to the realization of our dreams and goals.

How do we improve our personal development? Personal development is linked to improving our self awareness, self knowledge and when needed, giving our self esteem a tune up!  Fulfilling aspirations, spiritual development and even improving our health habits allow our personal development to grow… They all help us recognize the identity of ourselves. The better we know ourselves, the more easily we will know what paths to take that leads us to the life we dream of.

What I find so inspiring about personal development is its concept covers a wider field than self development or self help.  Personal development also includes developing other people. This can take place through roles from those of a teacher, from teaching someone a skill to improve their employability readiness, to teaching a group of people in a third world country irrigation methods so they can grow their own crops, become more independent and fulfill their dreams.

When it comes to areas of self help, self improvement and newly, personal development, I collect quotes I find inspire me. I do this because when I’m experiencing a challenging time, it’s hard to think of something or someone inspiring. But after I read a quote or two I’ve collected, it realigns me with my dreams, my capabilities and reminds me of all I have in my life to be grateful for.

Here are a few personal development quotes I’d like to share that I find extremely inspiring.

“Be the change you want to see in this world.” ~ Gandhi  (my personal favorite)

“In our struggle for freedom, truth is the only weapon we  possess.” ~          DalaiLama

When I read this quote, it reminds me if I have the courage to be truthful with myself, everything else will be okay.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~ Mark Twain

These words take my fear away and remind me to go out in the world and get what I want… Don’t wait for it to come to me.

“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”  ~Steve Jobs

Go with your gut…don’t second guess it.

I picked four personal development quotes from four very different people for a reason. They touched the masses with their personal development approach.  They inspired society as a whole with peace, kindness and a bit of entertainment to keep folks attention until their mission sunk in!

Do you these individuals influenced society in such a positive way by accident? I certainly don’t.  These men consciously worked to define themselves by personal development. Realizing the power they had as individuals is what allowed them to share who they are with us.
