It’s International Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week. The goal is not only raising awareness of those living with spinal cord injury, but what we can do to prevent getting one. A split-second can last a lifetime. IT DID FOR ME.
FACT ONE – EVERY YEAR, 11,000 PEOPLE IN THE UNITED STATES ALONE SUSTAIN SCI.
FACT TWO – CURRENTLY, 400,000 ARE LIVING WITH SCI IN THE UNITED STATES.
FACT THREE – TODAY IN THE UNITED STATES, 30 PEOPLE’S LIVES WILL CHANGE FOREVER BY SUSTAINING SCI.
FACT FOUR – YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 15 – 24 ARE MOST LIKELY TO SUSTAIN A LIFE-CHANGING SCI.
FACT FIVE – #1 CAUSE OF SCI IN 15-24 YEAR AGE GROUP IS CELL PHONE USE WHILE DRIVING.
FACT SIX – FOLKS AGED 65+ IS THE FASTEST GROWING AGE GROUP OF PEOPLE SUSTAINING SCI DUE TO FALLS.
My hope is International Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week teaches us three things. SCI does not discriminate, so be aware and take care.
